It is the present day. Nations compete for prominence and power on the international stage. Everything is business as usual until the arrival of visitors from beyond the stars. Are they here to abduct, terrorize, invade...or for some other purpose?

Will you band together to fight the alien menace or find ways to communicate with aliens who may simply come in peace?

Watch the Skies is a megagame for up to 40 players representing up to 8 nations, 2 news outlets, and aliens from outer space. The game focuses on themes of global politics in an near-future sci-fi setting.

What is a megagame?

Megagames are a mix between role playing/live-action role playing games, board games, and other activities all mixed into one day and typically involve 20+ players. They incorporate elements from all of these things but the action is ultimately driven by the players. Control Team, or moderators, are available to assist players by answering questions and helping guide you through the game.

What is Watch the Skies?

Watch the Skies is a megagame about international relations, conflict, and high level diplomacy. It incorporates elements of role-play and strategy in a hybrid of board game, RPG, and political simulation (e.g. Model UN). The majority of the players represent scientists, diplomats, military leaders, and heads of state of the world's most influential nations with a smaller group of players representing aliens from outer space.

This is the first commercial megagame offered by Midwest Megagames as we return megagames to the Twin Cities. For a large portion of the people in the hobby, a certain video from Shut Up and Sit Down was our gateway to megagaming. Others of us got our start with this one, so Watch The Skies has a special place in our hearts. â€‹â€‹

Factions

Nations

The majority of the roles are based on the leaders of the world's countries. There are 7 countries - USA, China, UK, France, Russia, Brazil and Japan.
Each of these countries have 4 roles: Head of State, Foreign Minister, Chief of Defence and Chief Scientists. (USA and China have a 5th team member representing the Secondary Head of State).

Head of State - Responsible for leading and coordinating the country.

Foreign Minister - Focal point of international matters who attends the game's UN council. This role is best suited for players who have an interest in diplomacy and/or political simulation.

Chief of Defence - Responsible for the country's military deployments on the world stage. This role is best suited for players who would be interested in overseeing and making decisions about their country's military situation. They are the only player on the team that gets to see the world map where alien UFO interceptions and military actions take place.

Chief Scientist - Researches new technologies and considers priorities of research. This role is best suited for players who are interested in role-playing.

The Media

This role is quite different from the other roles, as you take control of running an international press office. These players will act as reporters, writers and editors, making official announcements on the game's events every turn. These roles are ideal for anyone interested in creative writing, international affairs or news media.

The Aliens

A smaller team of people is responsible for the Alien presence. Exactly what this team will be doing is unknown and mysterious. But this role is best suited for players who are interested in roleplay and a more different experience.
